• Who can use this product?

  Dry skin types
  Anyone with dry skin needs a face cream that contains 3 types of moisturizers. HUMECTANTS are like magnets, attracting water to your skin from inside (your body) and outside (the air). EMOLLIENTS smooth and soften the skin, and OCCLUSIVES create a protective barrier on the skin to prevent moisture from escaping. Here's how we cover all three in our face cream for dry skin:
  

  • Humectant - sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), gluconolactone (derived from corn!), Aquaxyl™ and glycerin
  • Emollient - coco-caprylate (made from coconuts!), hemp seed oil, hydrolyzed hemp seed extract
  • Occlusive - shea butter, sea buckthorn oil

  PRO TIP: If you have very dry skin, mix 1-2 pumps of this hemp cream with 1-2 pumps of empyri's hemp serum.
  
  Combination skin
  Are you dealing with dry skin and the occasional breakout or oily patch? This face cream is superlight so it won't feel heavy or greasy. Balance is the key. Hemp seed oil, full of nourishing omegas 3 and 6, regulates the skin's oil production.
  
  Acne prone skin
  With our hemp cream, you won't be tempted to skip the moisturizer when you've got an acne flare up coming. We know it can be tempting to "dry out" your blemishes. The truth is that over-drying causes the skin to overcompensate by producing more oil...which can make you break out! Hemp seed is the perfect moisturizing oil for acne prone skin because its non-comedogenic meaning it won't clog your pores. For extra stubborn acne prone skin, layer this face cream on top of empyri's hemp toner. Vitamin C is the best acne treatment, and our alcohol-free toner formula is both gentle and hydrating.

• What are the benefits?

  Heals dry skin:
  We call this product "holistic hydration" for good reason! Our face cream has 4 star ingredients that effectively hydrate skin:
  

  • Hemp seed oil - similar to the oils on our skin, moisturizing and won't clog pores
  • Hydrolyzed hemp seed oil - clinically proven to heal dry skin and reduces flakiness caused by dehydration
  • Aquaxl - redistributes your skin's water reserves to where you need it most. We all need to work with what we've got, right?
  • Hyaluronic acid - holds up to 1000x its weight in water! There's different types of HA. We use sodium hyaluronate for its lower molecular weight which allows it to penetrate into the skin.

  
  And we can't forget to mention the moisturizing ingredients playing a supporting role in this cream: aloe vera, shea butter, glycerin and sea buckthorn oil!
  
  Reduces fine lines and wrinkles:
  The combination of hyaluronic acid (HA) and hydrolyzed hemp seed extract (HHSE) turn this daily moisturizer into an anti aging must have. HA is a powerful humectant that draws water to the surface of your skin. This temporarily fills in the spaces between your skin cells that form when skin is dry, and from loss of collagen overtime. Think of your skin as a wall and your cells as the bricks: when it gets too dry or from natural wear-and-tear overtime, the mortar holding the bricks together can crack (wrinkles). Using HA is like coming by with fresh mortar to fill in the spaces, leaving a smooth finish.
  
  HSSE is clinically proven to reduce both the width and depth of wrinkles too. Again, it's the effective hydrating that's key here. Hemp seeds are full of fatty acids that nourish and hydrate to make lines less visible.
  
  Protects from environmental stressors:
  All empyri formulations are designed to provide protection against and repairing from environmental damages, like UV and other free radicals. We know these play a major role in common skin concerns like signs of aging, loss of elasticity and dullness. Green tea leaf extract is one of the ingredients that takes our face cream from "just a moisturizer" to a multi-purpose treatment for your skin, not only to nourish but also to protect and repair.

• What kind of effects can I expect to see from using it?

  Short term
  After just one use, your skin will feel soft and moisturized. Wrinkles will be less visible and skin texture will be smooth. You have hyaluronic acid to thank for that! Hyaluronic acid holds 1000x its weight in water so it keeps moisture in the skin, temporarily "plumping" it up which makes fine lines less visible.
  
  Long term
  With regular use, this hemp moisturizing cream will deeply hydrate your skin. It will also help balance your skin (not too dry, not too oily) because hemp seed oil is proven to regulate the skin's oil production. The fatty acids in hemp seeds will nourish your skin to give you back that glow and bounce!

• Should I use this product before or after my sunscreen?

  You should use your hemp facial moisturizing cream before you apply sunscreen. (And you should be applying that sunscreen every. single. day.). We recommend waiting 1-2 minutes to allow your cream to soak in before applying your sunscreen. If you use a mineral sunscreen however, it can help to put it on right away. The oils in the cream that make it so nourishing will also help a thick sunscreen to spread evenly on your face.
  
  Our hemp cream helps protect skin exposed to other environmental stressors, like dry air and harsh winds which are really damaging to our delicate faces. But it does not protect from UVA/UVB (sun) rays, so it is not a replacement for your broad spectrum SPF.

• After using it will I see anti aging benefits?

  Yes. Our face cream has "anti aging properties" that benefit mature skin. By this we mean that it helps to support changes that happen to our skin overtime. These changes occur from the natural slowing down of our body's processes (ex oil creation, collagen production) and as the result of years of exposure to our environment (ex sun damage). We prefer to celebrate the gift of aging and signs of a life well lived, but we can do that while supporting your skin health too. You can glow at every age!
  
  Empyri's face cream with hemp seed oil has the following "anti aging" benefits:
  

  • Provides heavy duty hydration, which naturally decreases overtime as we produce less oil - and is vital to our skin health
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brighten dull skin and improve overall skin tone and texture

  
  To take your "anti aging" skin care to a higher level, don't skip on your vitamin C serum. We have the freshest vitamin C on the market because the science is there to back up that it really works.

• Can you use this product under makeup?

  Yes. Since this intensive facial moisturizer soothes inflammation and smooths skin texture, it's a good primer under makeup. There's nothing worse than trying to tackle under-eye creases? We know these are the most stubborn fine lines! Use empyri's hemp eye cream to prep your under eye area for an oh-so-smooth date with your concealer.

• How long will this bottle last?

  Used 1x daily, this bottle of hemp cream will last about 3 months. If you slather it on as a thick night cream too, that timeline may be a little shorter.
  
  Did you know that in order to have a "shelf life", all skin care products containing water MUST use a preservative? There's no getting around it, unless you're OK with seeing little spores of bacteria starting to grow on your creams and lotions. You're not? We didn't think so! Maybe you've heard that preservatives are scary, harmful chemicals that you want to get OUT of your food and skin care. It's true, cosmetic preservatives like formaldehyde, BHT's and parabens are potentially harmful to overall and skin health. But don't worry, nature gives us a solution.
  
  In this face cream, we use these natural preservatives:
  

  • Leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate
  • Populus tremuloides - an extract sourced from Aspen tree bark
  • Potassium sorbate - a salt made from sorbic acid and potassium hydroxide (this one is considered the safe alternative to parabens, the most commonly used preservative in cosmetics worldwide!)

• Is there a strong smell?

  This product has empyri's signature scent, lavender and orange blossom. It's a custom blend of essential oils. The smell is light and refreshing, not too strong or overpowering.
  
  Lavender essential oil: terpene linalool gives lavender its relaxing/calming effect
  Tangerine essential oil: anti fungal, treats irritated skin and acne
  Chamomile flower extract: calming, good for sensitive skin, antioxidant properties
  Japanese + Italian honeysuckle: sweet, soothing, 8-10% chlorogenic acid which is anti-inflammatory
  
  We never use artificial fragrance or synthetic "parfum" in our products. These cosmetic ingredients are made from hundreds of chemicals. Many have not been tested for safety. Essential oils are a safe and natural alternative. We always use below the maximum recommended levels in cosmetics.

• Is this a CBD face cream?

  No. But the label says cannabis sativa/hemp? Yes.
  
  The difference is that CBD face creams use CBD oil and our face cream uses hemp seed oil. Both come from hemp, but from different parts of the plant. CBD oil is made from the flowers; hemp seed oil is made from the seeds.

• What makes this hemp face cream a "clean beauty" product?

  This hemp moisturizer is the first empyri product to contain water. All cosmetic products containing water must use a preservative to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria. Unfortunately, many cosmetics use preservatives like parabens, which can disrupt our bodies’ hormones and irritate our skin. We swapped parabens for potassium sorbate, which has an EWG rating of only 2. It’s a gentle and safe alternative to parabens. Potassium sorbate is a salt made synthetically by combining sorbic acid and potassium hydroxide. It’s also used widely as a food preservative and is considered generally regarded as safe by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  
  Clean Beauty is a key pillar of empyri. Each product is as close to nature as possible and we use evidence-based science to ensure it will be effective. We look to leaders in the clean beauty space for resources. Empyri products will never use ingredients on David Suzuki Foundation’s Dirty Dozen list. We use the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep® database for guidance on the human and environmental safety of ingredients - both synthetic and naturally-derived.
