Vitamin C Serum: It's Our Specialty!
Vitamin C is one of very few skincare ingredients that stands the test of time, and perhaps even more powerfully, the whims of changing seasons and trends. And it’s got the science to back it up, which is why so many beauty brands include it in their formulations. So, what makes our approach to this wonder ingredient special?
empyri’s cannabis sativa toner kit allows you to make your own vitamin C serum at home; it’s always active because it’s always fresh.
Why It Matters
Vitamin C is sensitive to environmental factors such as air and light; it begins to “break down” almost as soon as it’s exposed to these elements. In breaking down, it loses its benefits (more on those below). This sensitivity makes it challenging to formulate, manufacture and package vitamin C skincare products that still have their sparkle, aka do their job. Often, you’re not reaping the benefits of vitamin C from products that have been sitting on your shelf for months.
But not with us.
empyri’s hydrating toner gives you the freedom to add vitamin C, in the form of L-ascorbic acid, to our hydrating toner about every 2 weeks. This is the amount of time before oxidation reduces vitamin C’s efficacy. Our ascorbic acid is packaged in an airtight sleeve until you open it and empty the contents into the dark glass bottle of our hydrating toner. By keeping out the air and light, you keep in all of the goodness that your vitamin C serum has to offer.
Vitamin C Serum Benefits
Multiple studies show that an active vitamin C serum is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-aging powerhouse.
- Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. Spent a bit too much time in the sun? Vitamin C acts as protection for skin that has been damaged by UV exposure. It is not a sunscreen, but it will help combat the effects of free radicals, which are responsible for inflammation.
- Vitamin C also aids with hyperpigmentation, typically caused by age or sun exposure. Vitamin C inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase, which controls the production of melanin. This means it can help to lighten brown spots on the skin without affecting your natural skin tone.
- Vitamin C is also a trusted standby for its anti-aging properties. Like we said, it’s a skincare It stimulates the growth of collagen and thickens the skin, helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
It’s uniquely able to move beyond the stratum corneum (that’s the outermost layer of the skin) to travel into the dermis, which is where the magic happens, like the stimulation of collagen production.
Vitamin C is safe for use with all skin types. Since it is acidic, it can be irritating to sensitive skin, which is another reason our mix-it-yourself formula is so special: it’s customizable. If you’re a first-time user, start with just 5 pumps of vitamin C serum and then work up to 10 over a few weeks. Alternatively, you can add just half a sleeve of L-ascorbic acid and work up to a full sleeve over time. You may feel a slight tingling sensation – this is just the vitamin C working!
Make a vitamin C serum an essential part of your skin care routine – and don’t forget to think of us when you do.
Because you are loved.
